1. Project Bid Win
It
was an exhausting work week for me. I had early flight on Monday traveling to China
preparing for two very important project bids worth over S$40 mil in total. On
one day, it started at 9 am and ended seventeen hours later till 2 past
midnight, followed by the official bidding starting at 9 in the morning. Yet, I
was extremely happy when we, including myself, colleague and our Chinese
partners, work as a team putting heart and soul to finish the final preparation
for the “battle”.

This
project actually started more than two years ago, with so many unimaginable and
unforgettable obstacles along the way. It includes a bid failure last year,
many last minute changes from clients, an incredible dangerous foggy ten hours
car ride, as well as puking sessions from bottom-ups drinks.

Eventually
my company emerged as bid winner for one of two bids. The win is over S$20 mil,
and to think that it is the bid we most wanted to win, really is the icing
of the cake. This project experience teaches that, sometimes you need to lose first in
order to win later; experience the woes first, before enjoying weal later. The
blood, sweat and tears trickled in the grueling process will also build
stronger relationships and trust among people.

dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or
lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand. – Vince Lombardi

2. Wedding Anniversary
8 Aug, is Wedding Anniversary day for me and my lovely wife. We had
delicious pizza and truffle fries for dinner at Sentosa Cove. Price is
reasonable at S$50 for two, and service is good. This was followed by a breezy
walk along the cosy marina berthing all the luxurious boats. The night ended in the most perfect manner, when we had dessert and coffee at Cove Stadium restaurant.
We were served by one very nice and sweet waitress. She took pictures for us and dedicated a song for our anniversary via the live band in the restaurant. This song is Collin Raye’s “Love Me” and one of our all-time favourite love songs.
3. National Day
When
I was in my university school days after my National Service, I was definitely not very patriotic. I hated our hectic lifestyle, hated our hot weather, hated the crowd, hated our “kiasu”
(scare to lose) attitude and hated many other things about this country.

Stepping
into the society, I am lucky to have the opportunity to travel extensively,
and have business dealings with many different people around the world. After seeing
Brazil, USA, many parts of Europe, Middle East, India, China, many parts of SEA
and Australia, I come to a conclusion that the outside world is not as good as
I use to think. I begin to appreciate Singapore more. Today, I am a proud
Singaporean and love my country.

us Sing along!
There was a time when people said
That Singapore won’t make it, but we did
There was a time when troubles seemed too much
For us to take, but we did
We built a nation, strong and free, reaching out
together
together
For peace and harmony
Chorus 1:
This is my country, this is my flag
This is my future, this is my life
This is my family, these are my friends
We are Singapore, Singaporeans
Singapore our homeland, it’s here that we belong
All of us united, one people marching on
We’ve come so far together, our common destiny
Singapore forever, a nation strong and free
( Repeat Chorus 1 )
( Sung )
We the citizens of Singapore
Pledge ourselves as one united people
Regardless of race, language or religion
To build a democratic society
Based on justice and equality
So as to achieve happiness
Prosperity and progress for our nation
Chorus 2:
We are Singapore, we are Singapore
We will stand together, hear the lion roar
We are Singapore, we are Singapore
We’re a nation strong and free forevermore
( Repeat Chorus 1 & 2 )
We are Singapore, Singaporeans ( X 2 )
